Welcome back! I hope you’ve enjoyed exploring the realistic landscapes, imaginative fantasy worlds, and epic sci-fi vistas from the previous posts, and maybe even created some amazing images of your own with Tengr.ai!
In this final part of our series, we’re taking our focus from the landscapes themselves to the artistic styles we use to create them. This time, we’ll explore different artistic styles and mediums, ranging from delicate watercolors and bold ink wash paintings to pointillist pieces, comic book illustrations, and even vintage posters. We’ll try to give your AI-generated landscapes a unique vibe. So, if you like exploring different art techniques or just want your landscapes to look a bit different, you’re in the right place.
Let’s have some fun creating landscapes in all kinds of art styles and mediums!

Tips for Artistic-Style Landscape Prompts
One of the best things about AI art is how easy it is to request a landscape in the style of different art movements or mediums. Do you want your mountains as a watercolor painting? Or your city skyline as an Impressionist painting with bold brushstrokes? Or maybe you prefer the minimalist charm of Japanese ink (Sumi-e) style? Tengr.ai can do all of these as long as you know how to ask for it.
Creating breathtaking landscapes in different artistic styles and mediums with Tengr.ai is part technique and part imagination.
Here are a few quick tips to help you with your prompts:

- Choose the Right Style: To have maximum control over style details, start with the Default style. For these kinds of images, using Default style or Quantum Mode (for high prompt fidelity) often works best, because the AI will focus on the style you describe rather than applying its own predefined settings.
- Emphasize the Art Style: Make sure to clearly mention the style you want right at the start (or near the first part) of your prompt. You should always mention things that you want to emphasize more at the beginning of your prompt. This helps Tengr.ai understand exactly what you’re aiming for. Alternatively, you can also use weights to emphasize the style even more.
- Mention Medium & Technique: To really get the look you want, include terms associated with that medium. Talk about brushwork, texture, and color tone. For instance, “soft, wet brushstrokes” for watercolor or “bold, inky outlines” for a Sumi-e ink wash. Describing the technique (e.g., “dot painting” for pointillism) helps the AI understand the exact visual effect you want.
- Experiment and Play: Don’t be afraid to experiment. Try mixing a modern theme with a classic style (why not a cyberpunk city in woodcut print?). If the result doesn’t look right, try adjusting your wording, be more specific in color palette, or textures. Even something as simple as “in pastel colors,” or “with heavy texture,” or “bold brushstrokes” can make a big difference. Every style behaves a little differently, so have fun and tweak your prompts to see how your image changes!
Now, let’s see these tips in action:
Here Are 10+ Artistic Styles to Play With
- Watercolor
Prompt: “A tranquil lakeside at dawn, painted in soothing watercolor. Misty mountains fade into a pastel sky, and their shapes bleed softly into the paper. Translucent washes of pink and gold reflect on the calm water. Tall reeds in the foreground painted with loose, gentle brushstrokes.”
– For a classic watercolor look, we described translucent washes and loose, gentle brushstrokes. Tengr.ai created a serene mood and a light, dreamy watercolor effect. It’s really simple and beautiful.

Or:
“A watercolor painting of a peaceful lakeside dusk, soft pastel colors blending in the sky, the mountains and pine trees reflected in the water with gentle ripples, and loose brushstrokes giving it a dreamy feel.“

2. Sumi-e Ink Wash
“An ancient pine tree clings to a misty mountaintop, in (Japanese Sumi-e ink wash style). (Bold black ink strokes), twisted pine branches, and a pale gray wash suggests distant foggy peaks. Empty space is left to evoke clouds. The scene is minimalist, contemplative, and monochromatic, like a traditional Zen painting.”
– Here, we clearly used the words Sumi-e and ink wash to guide the AI. We kept the description minimal to match the style’s simplicity. Using Default (or Quantum Mode) could be a great starting point, as we rely entirely on the prompt to get the Sumi-e look. However, experimenting with other styles can give you surprisingly amazing results as well. The bold ink strokes and monochromatic palette ensured the output had that classic Japanese ink painting vibe with calming empty spaces.

And, another stunning example:
“(Japanese Sumi-e ink wash style), loose painterly style, surreal dreamscape, fluid shapes.
A lonely sakura tree on a quiet hill, its delicate petals drifting in the wind like whispered memories. A child gazing up at the drifting lanterns, dressed in a simple yukata, the soft wind ruffles their hair, adding movement to the quiet stillness. Dreamy mist, the horizon dissolving into infinity. Dramatic cloudy sky. Softly glowing paper lanterns float gently in the misty air. The lone tree stands resilient, its ancient bark textured with deep grooves.
Minimalist composition, serene, nostalgic atmosphere, Japanese minimalist aesthetic, cinematic framing, expertly composed.”

3. Impressionist Painting
“A sunlit field of wildflowers stretching to the horizon, painted in an Impressionist style. Dots and dabs of bright oil paint create poppies, daisies, and lavender in bloom. Golden afternoon light dances across the scene, depicted with broken brushstrokes. In the distance, a blurry cottage and trees blend into the soft focus background.”
– To achieve that Impressionist feel, we mention dots and dabs of paint, broken brushstrokes, and golden light. Tengr.ai’s Default style was ideal here, but we also tested it in Quantum Mode. The results are impressive, with vibrant colors and a hazy, dreamy quality.

Which version do you think captured the Impressionist ‘feel’ better?
Next, let’s try something more ‘out of the ordinary’ and abstract:
4. De Stijl Style
De Stijl style (the art movement known for Piet Mondrian’s style) is abstract and modern, and it’s characterized by the use of geometric forms, which we also mention in our prompt. Using the Default style and Quantum Mode allowed Tengr.ai to follow these simple shapes and colors that we mentioned. This style is a fun departure from realism.
“(A De Stijl style landscape composition), in the style of Piet Mondrian, abstract geometric forms representing fields and sky, primary colors (red, blue, yellow) with bold black lines, a setting sun as a red square on the horizon, and a simplistic, modern art vibe.”

More examples in this modern, abstract style:

Or:
“Illustration of a landscape with flowers on a mountain, in De Stijl style.“

5. Baroque Oil Painting
“(17th-century Baroque oil painting), a dramatic sunset over a vast valley, the sky is filled with turbulent clouds in deep orange and purple, with rays of sunlight piercing through to illuminate a distant village. Dark silhouettes of trees frame the foreground. Intense contrast, and (chiaroscuro lighting). The whole scene has rich, layered colors, visible brush textures, and ornate, old-master detailing, giving the scene a grand, timeless feel.“
– The dramatic chiaroscuro lighting and phrases like ‘17th-century‘ and ‘old-master detailing‘ created a truly Baroque-style oil painting. We got excellent results with Quantum Mode, Default style.

6. Synthwave
“A retro-futuristic synthwave landscape at dusk. A massive neon sun sits low on the horizon, striped with glowing pink and orange bands. Below it, a purple grid-patterned ground resembling an infinite wireframe highway stretches toward the sunset. Silhouettes of palm trees and a distant city skyline are visible against an electric twilight sky filled with stars. The image looks like a scene from an 1980s arcade dream, with vibrant neon colors and a surreal, nostalgic mood.“
– For this one, we leaned into vaporwave/synthwave pop culture imagery by specifying the iconic elements: a neon sun, a grid-patterned ground, and purple/pink color scheme. We got a really unique landscape look.

7. Pointillism
“A serene garden by a pond, depicted in classic pointillism style. Lily pads floating on the water, the blooming roses along the path, every element formed by countless tiny dots of paint. Sunlight filters through the trees and is rendered as speckled patterns of light and shadow. The colors blend softly at a distance, creating a harmonious, gentle scene.“
– We used the word ‘Pointillism‘ so the AI knows to emulate that dot style. The images generated in Quantum Mode had a lovely soft-focus quality, thanks to the dot approach blurring colors together, just like a real pointillist artwork.

8. Charcoal Drawing
“A dramatic charcoal drawing of a stormy coastline and a lighthouse, rough textures and heavy shading, wind-twisted trees bent against the howling wind, dark storm clouds sketched with expressive, bold strokes, raw and emotional.“
– Here we mentioned ‘drawing‘ and ‘heavy shading‘ to get a truly dramatic charcoal drawing.

9. Comic Book
“A dramatic comic book-style landscape of a futuristic desert city, bold black outlines, saturated colors, dynamic perspective, dotted shading, energetic and graphic.“

10. Vintage Travel Poster
“A bold, colorful (vintage 1930s travel poster illustration) of a scenic coastal cliffside, flat color blocking, simplified shapes, dramatic shadows, muted pastel tones, nostalgic and adventurous mood.“
Here is the vintage poster without text:

And here’s the poster with a sample text. If you want to add your own, just include this in your prompt: “bold sans-serif typography at the bottom with the text “WRITE YOUR TEXT HERE”.” – Quantum Mode is really good for writing short texts.

And finally, let’s see a fun bonus style:
Paper Quilling
“A delicate paper quilling landscape of rolling hills and a bright sun, colorful paper strips tightly curled into trees, rivers, and clouds, intricate texture, three-dimensional handcrafted look.“
