Manga Got Better: Explore the Revamped Style

If you’re a fan of Manga art and Tengr.ai’s Manga style in particular, you might have noticed some enhancements we’ve rolled out recently, about the same time we launched our exciting Tengrai Anime style.

While Manga isn’t a new style, we’ve made some improvements to give you a fresh level of authenticity to your creations, aligning it more closely with the beloved classic manga aesthetics. In short, we made it better! Whether you’ve already experimented with this revamped style or are just hearing about it now, I’m here to show you what it can do and how it can elevate your AI art.

Let’s challenge it and get the best out of it!

Why the Revamped Manga Style Hits Different

Our updated Manga style now captures the vibe of traditional Japanese manga more accurately. You can expect:

  • That Classic Black-and-White Look: The updated style nails the traditional drawn manga look with crisp lines and dynamic shading.
  • Better Details and Expressions: Facial expressions and fine details come through with more clarity and charm.
  • Optional Colorization: While it usually gives black-and-white images, you can add colors using our Color Tones selector or specify colors directly in your prompts.

Tips for Maximizing the Revamped Manga Style

  • Keep it Short and Simple: While detailed prompts can be great, when it comes to Manga style, too much detail might make your image too photorealistic instead of the charming manga look. For that classic manga aesthetic, it’s always better to keep things simple and focus on the key elements.
  • Skip the Photography Terms: Words like “close-up,” “macro,” or specific camera settings are usually helpful. However, in this case, they can push the image toward a realistic photo look instead of that hand-drawn manga style. So, it’s better to avoid them.
  • Color Options: While the default manga style is usually black-and-white, just like the original manga drawings, you have two easy ways to add a pop of color to your images if you want: use Tengr.ai’s Color Tones selector or mention colors directly in your prompt.
  • Play Around with Prompts: Don’t hesitate to tweak your wording and try different phrasings. Small changes can make a big difference sometimes. Try a few versions until you hit the one that really clicks.
  • Try Different Settings: Test out different Creativity and Detail levels. Some of them can give you a more classic manga drawing style image, and some can give a more photorealistic result. Tip: Usually, lower levels of creativity will give you the most authentic manga look.

Versatile Prompt Examples to Inspire You

To help you get started, here are some prompt ideas that showcase the revamped Manga style‘s capabilities:

A mysterious female warrior in a storm, long wet hair, piercing gaze. Sharp katana resting on her shoulder, wind and raindrops mid-air. Wild and untamed energy, dynamic.

Cyberpunk manga character in combat stance on a rooftop. Futuristic Tokyo in chaos behind him, glowing cityscape, electrified wires, rain slicing the scene, glowing tattoos on arms, motion blur on his coat.

Two manga characters walking on a narrow Tokyo alley. Girl with tousled hair and an oversized bomber jacket, looking up at boy shyly. Romantic atmosphere.”

And for some color, let’s use the Color Tones selector:

A group of adventurers facing a towering dragon, detailed armor and weapons,
dynamic and energetic composition.

Mid-action pose of a tech-savvy boy with fiery orange visor and messy hair, graffiti hoodie glowing with fire patterns, mechanical gauntlets tracing glowing code mid-air. Background glitching and collapsing into cubes, sparks and digital effects swirling around him, bold motion effects, energetic composition, stylized cyberpunk setting.

A cozy café scene with friends laughing, warm atmosphere, intricate background details.”

And to add some color to this warm scene, I selected the Vibrant color tone from the Color Tones selector:

Sleek black crow with mechanical wings perched on a crumbling balcony, one eye glowing red, sky filled with low-hanging clouds and antenna towers, electric wires everywhere. Tense, mysterious mood.

expression: content, soft humor. Clean lines.

Street-cat on top of a power pole during a thunderstorm, rain cutting through the dark alley below, gritty manga shading, high-contrast halftones.

Cool manga girl with short hair and oversized jacket, graffiti wall behind her, sketchy ink style.

Next, I wanted to try something fun: testing a prompt I previously used in our Tengrai Anime blog post, but this time in Manga style. It’s an interesting way to see how different styles reinterpret the same concept.

A shy robot boy offering a flower to a human girl in a sunny field, wildflowers all around, heartfelt and uplifting, a meeting of two worlds.

Additionally, let’s take a look at a few image-to-image creations:

You can upload an image that you’ve previously generated in the Image to Image menu section. Then, you choose the Depth processing mode, and select Manga style from the Style selector to turn any image into a manga-style image.

Just like with our Tengr.ai Anime style, you can use it with or without a prompt—totally up to you.
If you add a prompt, you’ll have more control over the details and even the colors. If you don’t, it will still apply the manga effect beautifully, based on the original image.

Here are a few beautiful examples:

Final Thoughts

Whether you’ve already played around with our revamped Manga style or you’re just now discovering it, it’s absolutely worth a second look. It captures that hand-drawn, black-and-white manga charm more faithfully than ever. Plus, it still gives you enough options to play with color tones and moods. This style can do a lot if you get the hang of it, and especially if you keep your prompts clear, creative, and not too detailed.

Try it out with your favorite characters, or even reimagine an old AI-generated image in manga style with our Image-to-Image option.

Have you tried the improved Manga style yet? Share your creations in our friendly Facebook group—we’d love to see what manga worlds you bring to life!
